Bag Sleeper By Stacie McClintock, About.com Guide

Definition: A bag sleeper may be one of the most popular types of sleepwear for infants and babies. This is due primarily to its unique construction.
Rather than having two legs like footie pajamas, a bag sleeper looks similar to a child's nightgown. The difference is that is has a zipper, or snaps, across the bottom that make midnight diaper changes a much easier affair.
One of the reasons that bag sleepers are favored by parents is simply because they're roomy, they allow easy access to diapers, they're available in a wide range of fabrics, and the zipper across the bottom means they're less likely to accidentally zip sensitive skin up.
Also Known As: sleep sack, dressing gown, blanket sleeper

Baby sleepers

Infant sleepers otherwise known as a blanket sleeper is considered to be the epitome of a cozy and soft sleep wear for your child. I have found that I personally love this item, especially for new born infants through the age of a year and a half; as most pediatricians suggest not using a blanket in the confines of a crib, while a child sleeps (this is because a blanket may pose a suffocation hazard while the infant sleeps) however, these blanket or infant sleepers can keep your child nice and snug during even the coldest of nights; while the thinner versions work wonders during the summer and spring months as well. Many parent’s may balk at the large selection of styles, colors, and patterns that these sleepers come in; and may become a bit overwhelming to pick just what your child may need for that season. However I have assembled a few simple tips, that may help to narrow down your choices, and have your child wearing his or her new snug and fashionable pajamas in a blink of an eye.

First and foremost, you should select a gender specific style, pattern, or color; that is of course if you know the sex of your child prior to their birth. Most people will generally purchase things such as pinks and purples for girls, and greens and blues for boys; however you aren’t completely limited, especially with a site like this that helps to cater to a more alternative lifestyle. Keep in mind that you should however save the yellow clothing for those infants, that are preferred to remain a surprise until they are born. Once again, you will need to purchase these pajama’s based upon the season that your child is expected to be born in, and the sizes thereafter depending on the seasons they will fall in. If you are going to be delivering your child in the spring or summer months, you may wish to purchase a thinner and more light weight pajama; while purchasing blanket sleepers for fall and winter months, of course depending on the climate of your state.
Remember while you are purchasing pajama’s to not go too over board with the newborn sizes, as they grow out of this stage fairly quickly. I would suggest about seven which should enable you to do laundry once a week; depending on any accidents that your child may have. Afterward you may wish to consider to pack a couple more on hand, during each and every size range of clothing for your child. I would highly suggest purchasing the larger size a few months in advance in spurts, which will enable you to fit this item into your budget much easier than coming up with a lump sum.
Most parent’s understand the textile importance to a child, you should purchase pajama’s that are composed of a soft material. I would suggest avoiding polyesters or polyester blends, that can become balled up and scratchy with repeated washing’s ( as this is an inevitable part of having a child). Some of the best pajamas, usually exhibit a button crotch, that makes changing your infant’s diaper that much easier. I would suggest saving the zip-up pj’s for larger infants that will not need to be changed quite as often. Remember, you should purchase sleep wear that is meant for just that, sleep. Many parents confuse lounge wear for pj sets, which are not required to be flame retardant.

A Blanket sleeper is a safe alternative to blankets

A cozy blanket sleeper for baby allows mom and dad to rest assured, knowing their little one won't be kicking off the crib covers and waking up chilled.

Find. Compare and Buy Baby Sleep Sacks - View Bedding Links

Dressing baby in a blanket sleeper is also a safe alternative to space heaters in the nursery or a tangle of blankets that might restrict movement.
Blanket sleepers or sleep sacks are the perfect solution for bedtime apparel during cool nights. When buying a blanket sleeper, look for one that allows room for layering underneath, but is still comfortably snug at the neck and wrists and feet - the goal is to keep baby warm and able to wriggle!
Sleepsack
For very young babies, a sleeping bag, or sleep sack, is an especially cozy choice. A baby sleeping bag can be fitted at the top and arms, or more like a jumper top to be worn over regular pajamas. Both styles are roomy at the bottom so as not to inhibit those darting kicks of a newborn's legs.
The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises parents to use a blanket sleeper or sleep sack as a snuggly alternative to loose blankets in the crib. The SIDS Alliance echoes that recommendation, urging parents to remove crib covers at naptime and bedtime. The Alliance endorses the Halo SleepSack , a "wearable blanket," as a safe choice for baby's bedtime. Carter's, the U.S.'s largest baby clothes manufacturer, also includes a wide variety of blanket sleepers and baby sleeping bags in its collection.
Everyone rests a little easier when baby slumbers safe and snug in a soft blanket sleeper . 'nighty-night!

Footie Pajamas: finding big kid blanket pj sizes (adults, too!)

I love a kid in footie pjs. There is just something scrumptious about a little munchkin zipped up in such snuggly warmth. Unfortunately, I have to reserve them for the coldest of nights, or these same cute, cuddly outfits become chambers of sweat and I awaken to midnight requests from flushed faces with sweat matted hair begging to change into something a little less boiling.
Panda pjs.jpgCute, cuddly and $10.99 at sears.com
Now that my daughter’s 8- and crazy tall- finding footies that she’ll actually wear is an issue. I buy them even though she’s long lost the Teletubbie silhouette that's so adorable in these pajamas, just to steal a few more moments of having my baby girl. My son’s also growing so fast that he’s tearing through his supply of footie jammies like a paper shredder. Still, I'm hoping to find a few roomy pairs just to get through this season and next; problem is affordable footie pajamas are tough to find in larger kid sizes (ie:over a 5T).

I like a challenge, so I hit the stores and the web for the best deals:
Sears.com- I am a big fan of this surprisingly well stocked site, which also includes merchandise from Kmart. The value of Sear’s Toughskin 2-packs is hard to beat, but I like the looks of the Joe Boxer pajamas at Kmart: the Girl’s Panda Crossbones Blanket Sleeper are a hip, yet cute, steal on sale for $10.99. Ditto on the Joe Boxer Boy’s Skull and Crossbones, also adorable and affordable at $10.99.
Space sleeper.jpgRight on target at Target: $12.99.
Crazyforbargains.com-This site offers $5 flat rate shipping on orders up to $50, free shipping on orders over $50. They have a wide variety of sleeper pjs for girls and boys in the $9.99-$14.99 range. They even had grown up sizes, although my husband frowns on my wearing them because it conjures up the image of shacking up with a gargantuan baby. It's a bit more ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane’ than ‘Ooooooh, YEAH, Baby!’    Target- My favorite big box store hits the bull’s-eye with price and design on blanket sleepers for big kids. They had many choices, but I thought the monkey pattern on their Circo sleeper was fun for girls and affordable at $12.99. The boy’s selection was more limited, but still good. I liked the Space pattern, also $12.99. Most of the sleepwear qualified for free shipping with orders of over $50.

The Footie Patrol rides again!
Takeaway: I was a little surprised that places I’d normally hit- like Children’s Place and Lands' End were footie dry spots for big kid sizes.Still, there are many choices for hip, cozy footie pjs for big kids and grown-ups who want to stay warm or just young at heart. I’m happy to say I’ve got my kids’ pj wardrobes zipped up for another season or so now.

My 3 year old loves her footed pajamas! Her aunt gave them to her as a present for her 3rd birthday from www.footedpajamas.com The fabrics are soft and durable from being washed several times. The best part is they have adult footed pajamas. When she has sleepovers I put my adult footed pajamas on and join the girls!!
Love, love, LOVE footsie jammies!!! I looked forever for the big kid sizes - i can fit into kid sizes, but i couldn't find any that were past what would fit a 6-year-old. Then last year i finally found some at Target! The only problem was that they were adult sizes, so the small was still huge for a shorter, smaller woman. Thanks for the article.
melissak- thank YOU for posting. Warm pjs are a must after a day like this! Some hot cocoa wouldn't hurt, either...

Where can I find thick cotton footed blanket sleeper pajamas for infant boy size 12 months?

All I can seem to find in this size and larger is polyester fleece, but I want thick cotton blanket sleeper type pajamas. (the one piece kind with attached feet) I'm looking for a thick cotton material, kind of like sweatpants.
