Make Babies Sleep Comfortably Using Baby Blanket Sleepers

Putting infants to sleep can be a tedious task, especially due to their wriggling tendencies. Ordinary blankets used by them may be kicked away during sleep, which may result in them feeling cold during night time. Due to this, most babies would surely start crying, which would disturb the sleep of parents in turn. For this reason, special baby sleeping bags are designed, which can keep infants warm and comfortable during sleep.
While on camping trips, it may be difficult to get babies to sleep due to varying environment and temperature conditions. The sleeping bags would protect the babies against the vagaries of nature, and also provide adequate ventilation for normal breathing.
These sleeping bags can easily be worn over regular sleep wear, and give maximum comfort to the babies. As they sleep for an average of 16 hours every day, it is important for them to be comfortably placed, causing minimum worry for parents. But there are many reasons due to which they may be unable to sleep for the above mentioned duration, which is where sleeping bags are helpful.
Babies would usually move their arms and legs during sleep, which could result in them to get injured by long bars in the crib. If they wear the these bags, this potential injury can surely be prevented. Apart from the above, these bags would also protect them from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
Also known as baby wearable blanket, this is available in different colors and sizes. The carefully chosen set of colors and the cocoon shapes are guaranteed to keep every baby happy. People can choose baby wearable blankets from many options, such as without sleeves, and with or without zippers. Blankets with zippers are usually preferred by most parents, as these are easier to put on babies. In fact, these baby blanket sleepers can also be considered as ideal gifts for baby shower parties.
These baby bags are available as per different TOG Ratings. For spring and summers, bags with low TOG ratings are used, whereas for winters, those with high TOG number are preferred. This implies that the degree of warmth provided is directly proportional to the TOG rating.
According to The American Academy of Pediatrics, these baby sleeping bags are completely safe and secure for the babies. The material used to make these bags is also not mixed with any hazardous chemicals that could harm the babies.

Blanket Sleepers for The Preemie Project

The blanket sleeper program was started by request of the nursing management in the NICU at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC).  These sleepers are designed to help ease the transition from the NICU to home.  The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends placing babies on their backs to sleep, while wearing a blanket sleeper, instead of using loose blankets to decrease the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).  We invite you to read the AAP recommendations on safe sleeping practices.

Why are the Sleepers Needed?

In the NICU, premature and critically-ill babies are often swaddled in their isolettes to simulate the environment of the womb.  When the babies are ready go home, the nurses teach safe sleeping methods outside of the NICU which include sleeping on a firm mattress, with baby flat on his/her back and without any loose blankets.  According to the UIHC, NICU on return visits some parents reported that when they brought their baby home and attempted the “safe sleeping method”, the infants were uncomfortable in a foreign position and unable to sleep.  Out of frustration, parents returned to swaddling and placing baby on his/her stomach.  The blanket sleepers are designed to ease baby’s transition from the NICU to home and serve as a reminder of the safe sleeping method.

How are the blanket sleepers used?

Every baby in the NICU receives a blanket sleeper 48 hrs. prior to discharge.  The nurses starting using the sleepers instead of swaddling blankets to start the transition to the home environment.  A sleeper goes home with every baby to further ease the transition and serve as a reminder of safe sleeping practices.

When are donations made?

Donations of blanket sleepers are made every six weeks.  View our Calendar of Events for dates. Approximately 900 sleepers are needed yearly.
Yearly Goals:

Footed Pajamas for Men, Women and Kids

So in my search for all things comfortable and sleepwear I came across a site recently which I haven’t shopped at yet but is definitely on my list.  It is called BigFeetPJs.com and carries nothing but one of our very favorite classic styles of comfortable pajamas.  The footed pajamas.
Now I knew this site and this product line looked familiar for some reason and after visiting the BigFeetPjs.com site I figured it out.  I had seen them in advertising, on TV and when I looked through their website a little bit more, I noticed that BigFeetPjs.com also has a ton of celebrities who have selected their products from gifting tables and more than likely brought them home to wear them.
I personally love Footed pajamas and think that everyone on earth needs to own a pair.  Not only do they combine the warmth of slippers for you feet but they also keep you entire body warm while you sleep, walk around in the morning, if you are camping and although you may think they look funny at first, footed pajamas are seriously fashionably funny and I love them.  If you have never worn a pair for Footed Pajamas you are seriously missing out as they really can be some of the most comfortable pajamas on the planet. Just ask some of the celebrities that picked up their products from gifting tables including:
Tila Tequila, Ed Oneil, Samuel L. Jackson, Judd Nelson, Mario Lopez, Taylor Swift, Natasha Bedingfield, George Strait, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Bobby Brown, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Carrot Top, Cindy Margolis and the list goes on and on of people and celebrities that have picked up a pair of Footed Pajamas from gifting tables and selected the pajamas from BigFeetPJs.com.
The thing I love most about this site isn’t the celebrities that have selected their pajamas, it also isn’t the fact that I love footed pajamas either, it is that they have footed pajamas for the entire family.
BigFeetPJs.com not only features footed pajamas for Men and Women, but they also have footed pajamas for Kids, Boys, Girls, Toddlers and everyone else you can think of.  They can help to not only keep you and your partner warm all winter, but they can also help to keep your family and friends warm and also give you the perfect gift for anyone for their birthday, anniversary or even as a fun gift for a thinking of you.  If you do give it as a birthday gift or for a party like Christmas or Hanukah, you can also use the gift to embarass and get the recipient more attention by encouraging everyone to get them to put their new pair of footed pajamas on.
The footed pajamas from BigFeetPJs.com come in a huge variety of colors and styles.
BigFeetPJs.com come in fleece or flannel.  Red, Black, Navy Blue, with buttons, without buttons, Gray, Lavender, Pink, Blue, Pink Camouflage, Regular Camouflage, Green and more.  They come in all sizes and work for just about anyone who would want a pair.  Even if someone doesn’t want a set of footed pajamas, they will thank you when they try them on and sleep their first night in them.  Footed pajamas are perfect for everyone and everyone will love them when they finally try them.  If you haven’t bought or tried footed pajamas yet you are missing out.  I highly recommend everyone own or buy a pair of footed pajamas and although I have never shopped there myself, BigFeetPJs.com has a great selection of Footed Pajamas.  If you buy your pajamas from BigFeetPJs.com, let us know how they were and how much you love them by leaving a review here.

Footed Pajamas for Men and Women

Ok, this winter was absolutely freezing and my cat completely kept knocking my slippers away from my bed.  So one thing I was thinking that would help both of these problems is to buy fleece pajamas that also have feet sewn into them already.
The reason I think that these could be the ultimate pajamas and solution for cold winters and people who have pets or even kids who like to play with things and hide things is that these footed pajamas are made of fleece which is not only usually a seriously comfortable and warm fabric…not to mention usually a really nice light fabric as well…but since they are footed pajamas, they should also help to keep your feet warm while you sleep, while you get up to use the bathroom at night and even when you are walking around in the morning or to go get the newspaper.  The one thing I didn’t like about the footed pajamas though is that it looks like they are all one piece pajamas, but then again, not everything can be perfect.
Anyways, to make it easier for everyone to find the perfect pair of fleece footed pajamas for men and women I went and did the hunting for you.
Below you’ll find some of my favorite footed pajamas for men and for women and if you click the link next to the image, you’ll be taken to one of my very favorite pajamas stores online and be able to buy footed pajamas to help keep you and your feet warm for the rest of this cold winter.  They may look kind of dumb, but if they keep you and your feet warm all winter, who cares what your blankets think….and you technically don’t have to wear them if you have someone staying over….for those of you who are single.  If your married, you got the ring so now go comfortable and pick a pair up for your man so he sees why you love your footed pajamas and let him fall in love with them as well.

Footed Pajamas for Men and Women

Ok, so I was laughing really hard the other day remembering footed pajamas from the 80′s but also remembering how comfy they were when I was a kid.  I think what really got me going on them was the episode of the Family Guy where Peter bought a set/pair of red footed pajamas and he refused to take them off for days.   Now Peter took this to the extreme, but then again, if you think about it, pajamas are made to be soo comfortable that you are able to sleep in them and with footed pajamas it is the perfect pajama set in my opinion because the pajamas not only keep you warm and comfortable, they also make it so that your feet don’t get cold when your blanket doesn’t cover them all the way.  We have all had those nights where your blanket just doesn’t seem long enough and your feet are freezing.
The other time footed pajamas come in handy is if your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife is a coverhog.  If they are the type that steals the blankets and leaves you cold and uncovered in your bed, you no longer have to worry if you own a pair of footed pajamas because they not only cover your entire body with their warm footed goodness, but they also are comfortable and can easily take place of or be used instead of a blanket.   So let that blanket hog have his or her blanket because you can stay warm and cuddled in your footed pajamas.
Footed pajamas are the ideal solution for cold feet and warmth problems and by looking at one of my favorite stores again, I was able to find somewhere where you can buy footed pajamas.   If you click any of the links below, you will be taken to an online store that is fully trustworthy and that I shop at myself, and carries a huge selection of footed pajamas for both men and women.

Memories of Christmas in footsie pajamas

Anyone here have fond memories of wearing footed pajamas on Christmas morning? I'm mostly asking about childhood memories, when you were say 4 or 5 years old? I think I wore footies on Christmas morning when I was a baby, certainly, and I think as late as when I was 3,or 4,in the early 1980's,I wore footed sleeper pajamas on Christmas morning, back when it got really, really, REALLY cold (before the era of global warming,I guess),in late December (now it doesn't get super-cold until late January,or early February around here,if it gets super-cold at all.Last winter was a winter when it NEVER got super-cold,and therefore,we hardly got any snow, here in New York).I even have some childhood pictures of myself as proof. So,anyone have any memories to share? Feel free!

Getting Blanket Sleepers for Christmas

With Christmas just 2 days away, anyone looking forward to getting footed pajamas for Christmas on Tuesday? Are you getting the footed pajama lover in your life a new pair of footies for Christmas? What do you think of footed pajamas for presents?

History of the Blanket Sleeper in my own words

I know that there are a lot of sources out there, these days, what with the Internet and all, that you can use to get a detailed history of the blanket sleeper, but here's my attempt at giving a detailed history of the blanket sleeper, and what I think was what led to the many features on them that you see today, and for decades now, being employed and used on blanket sleepers, including those made and used today,so here goes,my attempt at a detailed history of the footed pajama:

Almost everyone alive today who can recall their youth and particularly their baby and toddler years, can recall wearing footed pajamas, especially those born into colder climates in Canada and the northern US,for example, like myself. The blanket sleeper, which is known by many other names, from footed pajamas to Doctor Denton's,is an especially warm sleeping garment worn mainly during the winter-time (though may also be worn in the spring and fall, depending on the climate during a particular year),and usually by young children, although that is increasingly becoming no longer the case, especially as more and more clothing companies and/or manufactures learn that blanket sleepers aren't for babies and toddlers anymore, that there is a market for blanket sleepers for teens and adults,as well. The main purpose of the blanket sleeper is to provide all over warmth for the wearer, mainly in cases where the wearer is an active sleeper, who tends to toss and turn around a lot in their sleep, and therefore kick their blankets and bed-covers off themselves during the night. The blanket sleeper has been around for over 150 years, first coming about in the mid 1800's,though parents might've been making similar garments for their children at a considerably earlier time (some say as far back as the 1400's,or 1500's),back before there were clothing companies that mass-produced clothing for the public,as I'm sure the problem of keeping warm in the absence of bed-covers has been around since the beginning of time, and certainly for millenias, let alone centuries. The first company to come around to mass-produce blanket sleepers was the Denton Sleeping Mills company, founded by a textile-worker,Mr. Whitley Denton, around the time of the American Civil War (late 1850's,or early 1860's).Presumably,Mr. Denton had discovered that many in the general public were having issues, mainly parents, as far as keeping their youngsters warm at night in the absence of bed-covers,so he designed a sleeping garment that catered to those needs. Also presumably,Mr. Denton designed this new garment of his based on the undergarment known as the union-suit,an undergarment that has many of the features that a blanket sleeper has today, from the one-piece,full-body design,to the button-closure that goes from crotch-to-neck,and what used to be on blanket sleepers back in the late 1800's,and early 1900's,the drop-seat, butt-flap,or trap-door in the back,to allow the wearer to use the bathroom without having to even unbutton the garment.Early union-suits even had attached feet, which was probably where Mr. Denton got the idea to add feet to the legs of his new garment. Now,back in the 1800's,blanket sleepers closed with buttons or snaps, mainly because the zipper wasn't even invented until 1907,but before long, possibly by as early as the 1920's or 1930's,blanket sleepers started being made with zipper-closures,and as the 20th century progressed, blanket sleepers with zipper-closures started becoming more popular, and zippers became more widely used as the closing device on blanket sleepers than buttons or snaps, but it wasn't until the 1950's and 1960's,that many of the well-known feature on the blanket sleeper, from the neck-to-ankle zipper, the zipper-tab,toecaps and skid-resistant,vinyl soles, being used on the feet, and the applique, usually placed on the left-chest,or lapel, came to being more and more widely used by blanket sleeper manufacturers.Of course, the reason for these features coming into existance is not well-known,and many people have their own theories for the purposes for them, and the reason for why these features came into being,so here's my theory on each:

1) The zipper-tab: Some contend that this feature was invented to prevent the wearer, mainly young children and babies, from unzipping their blanket sleepers during the night,as young children and babies tend to strip their clothes off at night, whether because they're too hot,or because due to their curious nature, they play around with their clothes and ultimately find ways to take them off.Others contend that the zipper-tab is simply there to protect the wearer's chin from the harsh, scratchy surface of the zipper-pull.The fact that most blanket sleepers that have this particular feature are on baby and toddler sizes may suggest the former reasoning may be correct, but the fact that some manufacturers of adult-sized blanket sleepers also add zipper-tabs to their garments,I'd have to say that the latter reasoning is more likely correct.

2) Toecaps: Most likely came about due to tiny holes developing in the toes area of the sleeper-feet prompting blanket sleeper manufacturers to decide to make the top tips of the feet, where the toes of the wearer are most likely to be positioned, out of the same,skid-resistant material as the soles of the feet,so as to make that part of the garment more durable.

3) Skid-resistant,vinyl soles: Like the toecaps, used,or designed for improving the durability of the soles of the feet,as well as added traction for the wearer on smooth floors, such as tiled bathroom-floors and linoleum kitchen-floors.

4)  Applique (usually on left-chest): Mainly for decorative purposes, mainly to make the garment more attractive to the wearer, since seeing their favorite cartoon character on their clothing is supposed to make children want to wear the particular garment more. Many sleepers, including and especially adult blanket sleepers, instead use a print design for this purpose, like all-over flowers,ducks,teddy-bears,etc............

5) Zipper-closure: Not sure on this one, though it might have become more popular than snap or button closures since the zipper,by its design, doesn't allow gaping to occur in the garment,as compared to the little gaps that occur between buttons,or snaps in the middle of the garments that use such fasteners,or closure-devices, mainly because, usually, the fastener on most articles of clothing go down the middle, mainly for ease-in-dressing purposes.

6) Mittens: Presumably used to keep the wearer's hands warm, though this may also serve the same purpose as the zipper-tab,in making it more difficult for the wearer to unzip the garment during the night, due to the mittens making it more difficult to grasp the zipper-pull,or the buttons required to unfasten them.

7) Hoods: Mainly used on custom sleepers (blanket sleepers designed also as animal costumes),presumably to keep the wearer's head warm, usually when sleeping out-of-doors on a camping-trip,for example.

In the 1960's all the way to the 1980's,a very popular brand of blanket sleepers was the one made by Sears, which used this polyester-pile fabric made of 35% polyester, and 65% of what's called modacrylic,a sort of modified acrylic fabric,a self extinquishing fabric, making these sleepers flame-resistant,which was becoming more and more of a concern with parents at that time. These had the famous cartoon character Winnie-the-Pooh as the applique embroidered on the left-chest in various designs of the famed cartoon character, either holding his famed honey-pot,eating from it,or holding a balloon as he soared in the air, based on the famous book and movies of the famed character. Then,in the 1990's,Sears dropped the modacrylic fabric and changed the cartoon character from Winnie-the-Pooh to Paddington Bear, possibly because Sears lost the right to use Winnie-the-Pooh in their sleepwear, but in an event, the new line of blanket sleepers weren't nearly as popular, and soon they changed to brand names like Lands End for the sleepwear that they sell in their stores. As a young child,I was one of those children that wore the Sears Winnie-the-Pooh blanket sleeper to bed on certain cold, winter nights.

Anyone here into Costumed Sleepers?

Anyone here own a costume footed sleeper? What do I mean by a costumed sleeper, you ask? It's a blanket sleeper that's made into an animal costume, from a blanket sleeper with a few embellishments on it, like an attached tail, or an attached hood with fox, or bunny ears on it,or it's a cross between a mascot-costume,or fursuit, and a one-piece, footed, blanket sleeper, complete with a tail, hood, and attached mitts.I have the latter. In the spirit of Christmas,I have my own rendition of the "A Christmas Story", bunny-suit,right down to the bunny-tail and attached mittens, and it's pink, just like Ralphie's. Second,I'm having a second costume sleeper in the form of a black cat done,as well.Hope to have that shortly after the holidays,in January,so anyone else have costumed sleepers like me? Feel free to share, thanks!
